Managing Upward
A leading legal firm in Africa sought our support to enhance the performance of its law secretaries, each of whom reported to different partners within the firm. The client’s goal was to improve efficiency, communication, and document management while ensuring stronger alignment with organizational expectations.
We began by conducting a performance gap analysis through individual interviews, which revealed challenges in managing upwards, communication, proactive task management, and filing practices. Using these insights, we designed a customized training program that addressed these areas and introduced practical solutions for structured document control, including the use of systems like SharePoint.
Although initially designed for in-person delivery, the training was adapted into a virtual format due to operational constraints. The program was structured to remain highly interactive, featuring instructor-led sessions, case studies, group discussions, and practical exercises.
Participants provided highly positive feedback, noting improvements in their ability to communicate effectively with their bosses, manage tasks proactively, and handle documents more efficiently. The training not only addressed immediate performance gaps but also equipped participants with sustainable skills to enhance their day-to-day effectiveness.
